Tribune Chronicle

SPEAKER TO SHARE HISTORY OF FURNACES: The Mineral Ridge Historical Society will host Clayton Ruminiski at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Weathersfield Township hall. Included in Ruminiski's presentation will be information concerning the two furnaces at the end of Furnace Street in Mineral Ridge. Ruminski holds a master's degree in history and historical presentation at Youngstown State University. His studies have focused on 19th century industry in the Mahoning Valley and how the region transitioned into a steel producer. His master's thesis focused on the iron furnaces in Lowellville, Struthers and Hubbard and was part of a much larger four-year project on the Valley's iron industry. Ruminksi will release a book, "From Iron and Steel: The Transformation of the Iron Industry on Ohio's Mahoning Valley 1845-1967." The book is currently under consideration of publication by Kent State University Press.
