LIBERTY - John A. Balko Jr., 82, of Liberty, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014, at his residence.
He was born April 11, 1932, in Mount Pleasant, Pa., the son of the late John A. and Mary Stranko Balko Sr.
John worked as a millwright for 42 years at WCI Steel, retiring in 1997. He was a member of St. Rose Church, FOE Aerie 2172 and USWA Local 1375.
He was an avid bowler, Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan. He was a hard worker, played hard and devoted to his family, whom he loved very much.
John is survived by his son, Jack (Cathy) Balko of Girard; daughters, Paula Fleming of Liberty and Judi (Michael) Sheesley of Girard; sisters, Mary Ann "Sis" (Calvary) Bias of Cleveland and Helen (Michael) Puskar of Mount Pleasant; brothers, Stephen Balko of Warren, Walt (Kaye) Balko of Acme, Pa., and Bernie Balko of Mount Pleasant; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis D. Balko, who passed away March 8, 2007; sister, Dorothy Stanek; brother, Joseph Balko; and granddaughter, Christine Sheesley.
Family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and also from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday. Officiating the service will be Monsignor John Zuraw of St. Rose Church.
John will be laid to rest in Churchill Cemetery.
