FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. - Alvira Schultheis, 91, died Monday, March 17, 2014, in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., following a brief illness.
She was born Sept. 11, 1922, in Burkettsville, the daughter of Charles and Josephine Hemmelgarn Goubeaux.
She joined the U.S. Army Nurse Corps as a lieutenant, and was assigned to the 162nd General Hospital at RAF Nocton Hall, U.K., and then to the 98th General Hospital in Munich, Germany.
She taught elementary school for 28 years at St. Christine School in Youngstown, and later in the Newton Falls school system.
Alvira was a member of St. Michael Parish in Canfield.
She leaves twin children, Judy Ann Schultheis of Alexandria, Va., and James W. Schultheis of Fort Walton Beach; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, Werner, she was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers.
Family and friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at St. Michael Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m.
A committal service with full military honors will follow at Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home, Youngstown.
