Tue., 8:17 pm: City seeks special prosecutor in case

April 22, 2014
Tribune Chronicle

WARREN - The city law department is asking for a special prosecutor to be appointed in a case involving a vehicular-homicide charge against a man accused of killing a Howland pedestrian.

Warren Law Director Greg Hicks said that the request is being made because he has close ties to the family of Antoinette Ross, who died Dec. 5 after being hit by a vehicle.

Patrick M. Niess, 20, of Edgewood Street Northeast, was indicted April 9 in Ross' death.

Investigators said Niess apparently fell asleep while driving along Howland-Wilson Road Dec. 8. Reports state he drove off the road and into a ditch. Investigators said they believe Niess did not realize he had hit Ross until after her body was discovered later.
