WARREN - A Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge has sentenced a Cincinnati man to 28 years in prison in connection with a rape and kidnapping last April.

Judge Andrew Logan handed Kevin Johns, 24, 11 years for rape, eight years for kidnapping and three years for having weapons while on disability. Johns, who received the maximum sentence, received an additional six years for gun specification charges.

Logan called Johns "a career-type criminal" who "had to be put away" during the sentencing hearing today.

Johns was also identified as a three-tier sex offender, meaning he will be required to register for life after being released from prison.

A Trumbull County jury last month found him not guilty of robbing two women of their cell phones. However, he was convicted of abducting the driver of a vehicle on April 13, 2013, but not the passenger. Johns said nothing at his hearing this morning.
