A Warren jazz star and Charlie Chaplin will join the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra as part of its classics season, and Idols, Inigo and Ariel will be joining the orchestra for its pops series in 2014-15.
Sean Jones, a 1996 Warren G. Harding High School graduate who was lead trumpet in the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and now is conductor / director of the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, will perform Alexander Arutunian's Trumpet Concerto with the orchestra on April 18, 2015.
The Classics season will open Sept. 20 with pianist Tomoki Sakata, and the third concert in the series will feature the orchestra providing live musical accompaniment to the Chaplin silent film "City Lights" on March 21, 2015.
The Pops season will open with Mandy Patinkin performing Broadway favorites by Rodgers and Hammerstein, Irving Berlin and Stephen Sondheim on Oct. 18. Patinkin, who won a Tony Award for his work in "Evita," is known for his work on such television series as "Chicago Hope," "Criminal Minds" and "Homeland" and for such film roles as Inigo Montoya in "The Princess Bride."
Vocalist Doug LaBrecque will join the orchestra on Nov. 1 and perform selections from "The Phantom of the Opera," "Les Miserables," "Jekyll & Hyde" and others.
Jodi Benson, who was the voice of Ariel in Disney's "The Little Mermaid'' will join the orchestra for its Holiday Celebration on Dec. 13. The program also will feature the Youngstown Connection and the Simple Gifts Interfaith Choir.
The final pops concert will be on Feb. 14, 2015, and the Valentine's Day concert will feature past "American Idol" finalists LaKisha Jones, Haley Scarnato and Matt Giraud.
Season tickets for the three-concert Classics season are $150, $120 and $110 (depending upon seat location). Season tickets for the four-concert Pops season are $190, $150 and $135, and tickets for both series are $335, $265 and $240.
