WARREN -- A home invasion turned deadly Monday night when a a man was killed and a woman hospitalized following a shooting at 918 South Street S.E.
Police said both victims were attacked by intruders who forced their way into the home where the woman lives.
It was Warren's first homicide of 2014. Detectives said it was the first time anyone was seriously injured in gunfire so far this year.
Detectives were speaking this morning with Lisa Dawn Prater, 48, who lives at the house and who was being treated for gunshot wounds to an arm and leg that were described as non-life threatening.
Police said James Levels, 64, was killed. He had an address on Beal Street N.W. where he lived in an apartment.
Lt. Jeff Cole said he wasn't aware of the relationship between the victims. Both were found in the bedroom of the house.
Levels was shot several times in the chest, according to police. Prater is reported to be in stable condition in Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
An initial report Monday night said witnesses spoke of two young white males wearing masks or bandanas who ran from the scene.
