OHSBCA Academic All-Ohio teams
The Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association released its Academic All-Ohio teams as well as the five teams in the state with the highest GPAs.
Locally, LaBrae's Peyton Aldridge was named to the Division III team. Along with averaging 21.4 points per game, Aldridge recorded a 3.95 GPA.
On the girls' side, Pymatuning Valley's Geena Gabriel was named to the Division III team with her 3.73 GPA. Gabriel averaged 18.3 points per game for the Lakers this year. Also, PV's team had the fourth highest GPA in the state with a 3.887.
SCGA looking for members
Sponsors Classic Golf Association is entering its 41st season and is looking for new members into the organization.
The 2014 SCGA schedule is: May 4: at Windmill Lakes; May 18: at Tamer Win; June 9: at Trumbull Country Club (optional event); June 29: at Candywood; July 27: at Riverview; Aug 17: Chris Macaulay at Tamer Win (optional event)
The SCGA is a USGA licensed member club using handicaps based on the USGA system for handicapping. All Tournaments are played at 100 percent handicap, unless noted.
Girard Hall of Fame on Saturday
The Girard Hall of Fame has announced its 2014 class of inductees. Inducted this year are: Dustin Helle, class of 2003; Tealle Hunkus, class of 2003; Randy Mason Jr., class of 2002; Michael Cardiero, class of 1979; Michael DelBene, class of 1972; Webster Dawson, class of 1955; Ken Vaughn, class of 1953; Claire Purdum, class of 1929; Jane Harris and Edward Crish, community service awards.
The inductees will be honored at a banquet at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Leo's Ristorante. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $40 and will be available at Girard High School, Melfi's Pizza Parlor, or by calling Mark Zuppo at 330-501-5385.
Also, the Hall of Fame committee will be honoring and awarding its inaugural Girard Hall of Fame Student-Athlete Scholarship Award winners.
TCTA scholarships available
The Trumbull County Tennis Association is preparing to award its yearly scholarships to area seniors - the T.C.T.A. Scholarships and the Gary Dieter Memorial Scholarship.
Trumbull County graduating seniors who are T.C.T.A. members and have played varsity tennis are eligible for this scholarship. Consideration also is given to non Trumbull County students who are T.C.T.A. members and have participated in T.C.T.A. tournaments.
Applications are available at high school guidance offices or at www.trumbullcountytennis.com.
Deadline to apply is April 14.
Chalker Alumni Game on April 12
The Chalker Athletic Hall of Fame's annual alumni basketball game is scheduled for Saturday.
Again, this year, the women will tip off at 6 p.m. with the men to follow.
This event is held at the Chalker gymnasium on state Route 534.
