SALEM - M. Josephine Hudson Hawkins, 99, of Salem, died at 10 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Gracewood Assisted Living on Benton Road.
She was born Jan. 8, 1915, in Tiffin, the daughter of the late Harry R. and Ida May Stohl Hudson.
She retired from the JCPenny Co. as a credit manager.
She was a member of the Salem First Presbyterian Church.
She was a former member of the Salem Senior Citizens and was a writer of a column in the senior news, a former 4-H adviser for 35 years, past president of the Columbiana County 4-H Council, past secretary of and member of the Perry Grange, and taught Sunday school for many years.
She is survived by her children, Carol Souders of Niles and Barbara Hawkins of Chippewa Lake, Chippewa; a brother, William Reynolds of Lisbon; 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Edward Minett of Salem; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Reynolds of Wilmington.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Hawkins, on April 5, 1989; children, Betty Jo Zehentbauer on Sept. 25, 1995, and Sandra Minett on March 17, 2014; half-brothers and sisters, Betty Jo Faloba, John Reynolds, Thomas Reynolds, James Reynolds, Richard Reynolds and Timothy Reynolds; and sons-in-law, Vernon Souders, Dan Throckmorton and Paul Zehentbauer.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greensien & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem. A time of visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
The burial will be in Highland Memorial Park in Beloit.
