QUILTS FOR CHILDREN: Quilts from the Heart received a $5,000 grant from Neighborhood SUCCESS and Leadership, a Program of The Raymond John Wean Foundation, so that the club is able to continue the mission of making quilts for any traumatized child. The group also received a $1,000 grant from Tony Spano, founder of The Hope Foundation, to make weighted blankets for the children with autism and children with special needs that attend The Potential Development Program in Youngstown.
The 38 weighted blankets and quilts are completed with plans for others for traumatized children in local areas. On March 15, Melissa Jupp, development officer and Shelli Duchek, program coordinator for Potential Development were in attendance and were able to take seven weighted blankets back to the children in the program.
There were 14 Girl Scouts from Troop 80026 who made 26 fleece blankets for the children in the local hospitals.
