SUWANEE, Ga. - Gretha Lee Harvey Pickett, 76, of Suwanee, Ga., passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014.
She was born July 13, 1937, in Yazoo City, Miss., the eldest child of Sylvester and Annie Mae Thomas Harvey.
Gretha's family moved to Warren when she was in elementary school. She was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School.
During her life, she traveled around the world as a military wife. She moved to Suwanee, Ga., in 1988 where she worked as a center coordinator for Gwinnett County Senior Services. She was a member of New Mercies Christian Church. Gretha was loved for her boundless energy, her Christ-like attitude, her sense of style and her ability to make everyone around her feel loved. She will be truly missed.
She is survived by her husband, Thires Pickett of Birmingham, Ala.; by her sons, Thires B. Pickett of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Timothy Pickett of Tacoma, Wash.; her daughters, Valerie Brown of Lawrenceville, Donna Copeland of Hilliard, Cheryl Pickett and LaToia Kell, both of Suwanee;12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Iris Harvey, Sherris Arnold, Rochelle Harvey and Senda Harvey, all of Warren; her brother, Douglas Harvey of Hendersonville, Tenn.; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Gretha was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Sylvia Pickett-Waymire, her cherished doggie, Zowie; her parents; two brothers; and a sister.
Gretha's homecoming will be celebrated 1 p.m. Saturday at New Mercies Christian Church, 400 Five Forks Trickum Road in Lilburn, Ga.
