The 2014 Peace Celebration organizing committee is organizing an essay contest for all Trumbull County English classes.
The winning students will be receiving a $500 cash prize plus a $1,000 gift certificate for their school library.
All others in the top 10 will be given checks for $100 with all entrants in the contest who are present will receive $15 gift cards to Ponderosa Restaurant.
The top ten student entries will also be recognized at the Peace Celebration in Warren on Sept. 21 as they will be reading their essays.
All students in the English classes are eligible to enter the contest, but each English teacher will be allowed to submit two entries the number o classes he or she teaches. For example, if a teacher has four classes, that is eight entries.
Each student should see their English teacher for an entry form. Deadline for the essays are May 1. Teachers must send in their entries which must be postmarked by May 15. Committee members said each English teacher in the county will be given rules for the contest.
The topic of the essay is: "If I had the opportunity to speak to elected officials of Trumbull County, this is what I would want them to do in order to bring Peace to this area.
The length of the essay should be two to three pages double spaced. Essays will be evaluated on originality, depth of thought and good command of English. Judging will be done by members of the English faculty at KSU- Trumbull campus.
