WARREN - Joseph H. Toland, 72, died early Thursday, March 27, 2014, at St. Joseph Health Center, surrounded by family, following a lengthy illness.
He was born Aug. 31, 1941, in Martins Ferry, the son of the late Thomas N. and Mary Lopetz Toland.
Toland was a supervisor of production and planning at Thomas Steel Strip Corp. for 30 years before retiring in 2000, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
An avid fisherman, Toland also cherished his model trains and cars. Toland had a passion and appreciation for photography and also spent endless hours working on, and solving, puzzles.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Irma Lowery Toland; a daughter, Natalie (Matthew) Minor; a son, Daniel Toland; two sisters, Virginia Carpenter and Shirelee Payne; three grandchildren, Donald, Richard and Mackenzie; and a great-granddaughter, Skylar.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Patricia Jean; and a brother, Robert.
Friends are being received from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home on North Park Avenue, where a memorial service will immediately follow.
