Former YSU and The Ohio State University football coach Jim Tressel is among 19 applicants for the position of president of the University of Akron, the university released today on its website.
The news comes amid a chorus of area politicians and officials who have voiced their support of Tressel becoming YSU's next president. Today is current YSU president Randy Dunn's last day in the position, in which he will have served for less than a year.
Tressel has not responded to requests from comment other than one published report that he is happy with his job at the University of Akron, although members of YSU's Board of Trustees have said they would consider Tressel's application.
