NILES - Josephine A. Marrara, 87, of Niles, died at 12:50 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014, at Vibra Hospital in Warren.
She was born Oct. 20, 1926, in Dover, the daughter of Anthony and Julia Pietro Cardinal.
She was a 1944 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and employed as a matron for 17 years for the Niles City School District, retiring in 1986.
She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles, Mt. Carmel Society, festival volunteer and enjoyed dancing and playing cards.
Her husband Sam N. "Sarge" Marrara, whom she married Nov. 20, 1948, died Aug. 28, 1998.
She will be deeply missed by three sons, Samuel Marrara of Millersburg, Michael (Brenda) Marrara of Niles and Matthew Marrara of Niles; and two grandchildren, Alicia and Michael Marrara.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Jeannie Marie Marrara and Lorraine Marrara; two brothers, Daniel Cardinal and Vincent J. "James" Cardinal; and a sister, Virginia Cardinal.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles, where the Mount Carmel Bereavement Ministry will conduct 7:30 p.m. prayers.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles, preceded by a 9:15 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home.
Josephine's calling hours and Mass will be held in conjunction with her brother, Jim Cardinal.
