WARREN TOWNSHIP -- Firefighters took about 45 minutes to extinguish the flames inside Warren Steel Holdings on Mahoning Avenue near the Route 82 bypass.
Fire and heavy smoke filled three floors, according to reports. The fire broke out on a conveyer belt around 3 a.m.
The company operates a 100-ton electric arc furnace in its melt shop. Production ramped up in December for the 185 workers. There is no report on whether this morning's fire would disrupt work.
The Bazetta Fire Department posted this photo, from this morning's fire at Warren Steel Holdings, on its Facebook page.
Warren Steel Holdings also made news recently when the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's annual Toxics Release Inventory listed it as having contributed the largest amount of emissions of any organization in the Mahoning Valley.
Updates will be posted here. Complete coverage will appear in Tuesday's Tribune Chronicle print edition.
