WARREN - Joseph Roland Bryant Jr., 72, of 2915 Weilacher Drive, Warren, departed this life at 3:24 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at Louis Stokes Veterans Medical Center, following an extended illness.
He was born Aug. 23, 1941, in Warren, the son of Joseph Roland and Lillie Sarah Rainey Bryant Sr.
Mr. Bryant was employed with Delphi Packard Electric for 35 years as a senior project engineer before retiring in 2000. He also was a tax preparer for Hewitt Jackson Tax Service.
He was a 1959 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, attended Central State, Ohio State and Kent State universities.
He was a member of Firm Foundation, where he served as an elder; a chairman of the Trustee Board; an Eagle Scout; and he enjoyed tennis, golf, photography and developing.
Mr. Bryant served in the U.S. Army as a captain during the Vietnam War, where he received the National Defense Service medal, Parachute Badge, Vietnam Service medal, Purple Heart, two Bronze Star medals, 2 CS Service Bars and Sharpshooter (Rifle M-14), and was a 1967 graduate of the U.S. Army Infantry Officer Candidate School.
He married Geraldine Alice Moore Bryant May 1, 2010.
Besides his wife of Warren, he leaves to mourn two sons, Stephen Karl (Donna) Bryant of Warren and Joseph Roland Bryant III of Cortland; three daughters, Ms. Tanya Denise Bryant of Chicago, Mrs. Tiffany (Bilal) Abdulsamad of Los Angeles, and Ms. Kimberly Chantel Bryant of Atlanta; one stepson, Voren Hughes of Seattle; his mother, Ms. Lillie Sarah White of Warren; one brother, Bruce (Angie) Davenport of Warren; three sisters, Ms. Shirley Jones of Detroit, Mrs. Sandra (Harry) Pugh of Warren and Ms. Jeanne Baugh of Detroit; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
His father; one daughter, Natasha Bryant; and one sister, Ms. Evelyn Elkins, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at House of Prayer U.H.C. Calling hours are one hour prior to service from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in Pineview Memorial Park Cemetery. Family also will receive friends at 2915 Weilacher Drive.
Arrangements of comfort were handled by the Sterling-McCullough Williams Funeral Home.
