WARREN - David Edwin Stoner, 73, past away unexpectedly on Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at the emergency room at Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center.
He was born on Oct. 7, 1940, in Poland Township, the son of the late Lisle and Sylvia Pekkanen Stoner.
David attended Poland Seminary High School and the Staunton Military Academy.
He served in the U.S. Army as an instructor of the S.E.R.E program in Germany. He enlisted in 1960 and was honorably discharged in 1965.
David was a machinist with Cooper Power Tools in Lexington, S.C., and retired in 2002.
He was a Mason while in South Carolina and was of the Lutheran faith. David enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR, and also was an avid South Carolina Gamecocks fan.
Memories of David will be carried on by his wife, Teresa Griggs Stoner; daughter, Jessica (fiance Gene Tucholski) Stoner, both of Warren; son, Stephen Stoner of Temple, Texas; daughter, Sylvia McCroy of Dallas, Texas; sons, Johnny (Shannon) Griggs and Derek (Kayla) Griggs, both of Lugoff, S.C.; 13 grandchildren; and sister, Virginia Ohlin of Warren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Norma Jean Stoner.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the McFarland & Son Funeral Home in Warren, with a memorial service following. Services of final committal and full military honors will be held at a later date in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.
