LEAVITTSBURG - Ralph Wesley Jones, 81, of Leavittsburg, passed away Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at his home.
He was born Jan. 23, 1933, in Buffalo, N.Y., the son of the late Ralph W. and Amelia Drescher Jones.
He married Janet Lee Carter Jones on Aug. 7, 1953.
Ralph was a graduate of Leavittsburg High School, was in the band orchestra and was also the only male cheerleader from Leavittsburg.
He was employed as a metallurgist foreman with Republic Steel Corp.
He was a 50-year member of the Warren Township Fire Department and chief for the last 10 years.
Ralph was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, stationed in England during the Korean War, and played in the Air Force Band.
Ralph also enjoyed fishing on Lake Erie, gambling at casinos and gardening and liked to surf the Internet.
Loving memories of Ralph will be cherished by his daughter, Diana (John) Richards, and two sons, Alan (Deborah Jaros) Jones and Ralph (Lisa) Jones, all of Leavittsburg; sister-in-law, Phyllis Anderson of Leavittsburg; grandchildren, Justin, Jared and Jaime Jones, Amanda and John Jr. Richards, and Lena and Molly Jones; and great-grandchildren, Braydon and Cameron Jones.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Janet Lee Jones, who passed away Sept. 5, 2009.
Family and friends will gather from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.
