With all this talk about Obamacare, I think some people have lost track of what the Affordable Care Act really does.
The ACA makes health care coverage more secure by protecting families, young people and seniors. Americans can no longer be denied healthcare because of a pre-existing condition, which means that everyone will have access to the care they need.
The ACA is lowering the cost of prescription drugs for seniors and is making it possible for young people to stay on their parents' health plans until they turn 26. All of these protections will make it easier for Americans to stay healthy, and provide the basic services we all depend on.
These services have become a saving grace for Americans all across the country and most importantly, the ACA works! More than 86 million Americans received preventive care services like mammograms and colonoscopies for free.
About 2.5 million young adults are now insured thanks to new provisions in the health care law. Subsidies also help young adults and their families cover their premium costs and 3.6 million Medicare beneficiaries have saved more than $2.1 billion on prescription drugs because of the ACA.
These numbers represent real people, all of whom are being helped by the health care law. Conservatives want to fight the same old political battles so they can put the insurance companies back in charge and take away the protections that have already helped millions of Americans.
But we won't go back - the Affordable Care Act works!
