GIRARD -- Until further notice, a bridge leading into Liberty Park has been closed by the city.
City of Girard Safety Service Director Jerry Lambert said that the bridge's closing was part of the city's routine maintenance checks.
"Every so often, we do routine bridge inspections, and the bridge was passable a few years ago when it was inspected," Lambert said. "This time, (the inspectors) felt it should be shut down for repairs."
City Council brought in legislation at last Monday's meeting allowing Lambert to advertise for bids to repair the bridge, which is shut down for traffic until its repairs are addressed.
