WARREN - The names of several people taken to area hospitals following a Tuesday night apartment fire have been released.
Fire officials said Nancy Whitlow, 63, and her son, Brian Whitlow, 44, who were in the apartment when the blaze started, are at the Akron Children's Hospital Burn Center. An update on their conditions is not available.
Brian Whitlow's sons, Damian, 14, and Nick, age unavailable, rode in the ambulance with their father, officials said. They were not hurt and are now staying with a relative in Garettsville.
A woman who jumped from the second floor, Ashley Johnson, 27, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Also a man, who has not been identified, jumped from the third floor. He and another woman, who is pregnant, were also taken to local hospitals. Updates on their conditions are not available.
Around a dozen people were at the apartment complex at 1500 Stewart Circle N.W. when the fire started just after 7 p.m. on the first floor. Warren fire Chief Ken Nussle said most of the fire damage was confined to the apartment where the blaze began, but other parts of the six-unit complex sustained smoke damage.
Nussle said officials are not ruling out that the fire may have resulted from cooking.
Howland, Warren Township and Champion fire departments provided EMS units and support.
