ORANGE PARK, Fla. - Thomas Forbes Ewing Sr., 90, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, surrounded by family at Orange Park Medical Center in Orange Park, Fla.
He was born June 4, 1923, in Warren, the son of Guy Raymond and Helen Marion Forbes Ewing.
Tom proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was in the 405th Infantry. He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart.
After his honorable discharge in 1946, he returned to school and earned a bachelor's degree in business from Ball State University in Muncie, Ind.
He subsequently married Jeanette Marsico of Niles, in 1948. They moved to Toledo, where Tom took a job with Sears Roebuck. There, they raised their family and both worked until retiring in 1983.
In 2006, Tom and his wife moved to Orange Park, Fla., to be closer to family. He was a devoted husband of 66 years.
Tom will be remembered for his love of people. He was an avid conversationalist and great storyteller. As a devoted member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, he rarely missed a service or event. He often spoke of the joy and comfort he found in this community during his final years. Tom was loved and will be missed by his family, friends and his brothers and sisters in Christ.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanette; his four children, Thomas (Charlotte) Ewing Jr., Paula (Scott) Kukelhan, Jane Ewing and James (Anne) Ewing; his eight grandchildren, Philip Hall, Stephanie Quigley, Sophie Ewing, Kristina Ewing, Paul Ewing, Sam Ewing, Stevee Kukelhan and Nathan Worrell; and three great-grandchildren, Bronwyn, Audrey and Parker.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Guy Raymond Ewing Jr. and Richard Forbes Ewing.
Funeral service was held at 3 p.m. today at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 1614 Blanding Blvd., Middleburg, Fla.
