NILES - Irene Esther Haydu, 87, passed away peacefully at 9:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at her residence following an extended illness.
She was born on Feb. 6, 1926, in Mercer, Pa., the daughter of Andrew and Susana Nagy Bochy, and moved to Niles in 1947.
During World War II, she worked at Packard Electric and Westinghouse Electric.
She was a member of St. Stephen Church and enjoyed flower gardening and animals, especially rescuing and fostering cats. Most of all, she loved her grandchildren and cherished the time spent with them. They have created memories that will never be forgotten.
Irene is survived by a son, William A. (Linda) Haydu Jr. of Niles; two daughters, Linda (William) Parise of Niles and Cindy (Donald) Burlingham of Stafford, Va.; seven grandchildren, William (Heather) Haydu, Michael (Toni) Haydu, Maria (Christopher) Michelmann, Megan (Curt) Beling, Christopher Parise, Eva Burlingham and Laura Burlingham; eight great-grandchildren, Tyler, Leah, Colin, Logan, Patrick, Vincent, Clark and Cate; sister, Julia Filson of Port Orange, Fla.; and brother, Joseph Bochy of Sharon, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Haydu Sr., whom she married on Nov. 8, 1947, and who died on May 1, 2006; two sisters, Margaret Porkalab and Anna Swartz; and three brothers, Andy Bochy, Jim Bochy and Nick Bochy.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home where family and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. The Rev. Thomas Kraszewski will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery.
