To quote the great philosopher John Paul Young, ''Love is in the air / Every sight and every sound.'' If you don't think so, turn on the TV.
But I suspect those commercials will pipe down after Valentine's Day passes on Friday.
If it weren't for the reminders blasting us like the ''thunder of the sea,'' as Young's 1977 love song puts it, a gob of us guys probably would forget all about Valentine's Day.
Eventually - along about April - we'd notice it's been a tad cold in the house lately. Sometime in August, we might ask why over a frozen dinner. That's when we'd be informed that we forgot Valentine's Day. For the third year in a row. Possibly five.
Or maybe that's just at my house. I've never been real good about dates.
So here's your reminder from the Old King Cole of Romance: It's Friday. This week. You might want to pick some flowers or something.
At least write a mushy note. I've combed through the files for some of my favorite quotes about love and Valentine's Day. See if any of these will help.
"Valentine's Day: the holiday that reminds you that if you don't have a special someone, you're alone." - Lewis Black
"Oh here's an idea: let's make pictures of our internal organs and give them to other people we love on Valentine's Day. That's not weird at all.'' - Jimmy Fallon
"I don't understand why Cupid was chosen to represent Valentine's Day. When I think about romance, the last thing on my mind is a short, chubby toddler coming at me with a weapon." - Author unknown
"Valentine's Day is when a lot of married men are reminded what a poor shot Cupid really is." - Author unknown
''Get married early in the morning. That way, if it doesn't work out, you haven't wasted a whole day.'' - Mickey Rooney
''I love being married. It's so great to find one special person you want to annoy for the rest of your life.'' - Rita Rudner
''Love is a grave mental disease.'' - Plato
''It is impossible to love and be wise.'' - Francis Bacon
"Love is being stupid together." - Paul Valery
"Anyone can be passionate, but it takes real lovers to be silly." - Rose Franken
''Forget rose petals. Sprinkle the bed with sliced beets!'' - David Letterman
"Without love, what are we worth? Eighty-nine cents! Eighty-nine cents worth of chemicals walking around lonely." - Capt. Benjamin Franklin ''Hawkeye'' Pierce (Alan Alda, ''M*A*S*H'')
"What the world really needs is more love and less paper work." - Pearl Bailey
"Love is much nicer to be in than an automobile accident, a tight girdle, a higher tax bracket or a holding pattern over Philadelphia." - Judith Viorst
"True love comes quietly, without banners or flashing lights. If you hear bells, get your ears checked." - Erich Segal
''Love is the thing that enables a woman to sing while she mops up the floor after her husband has walked across it in his barn boots.'' - Hoosier Farmer
Yep, love is in the air. But you still ought to think about flowers. Otherwise, what's in the air might be you. And it won't be lovely.
