AUSTINTOWN - John B. Allen, 68, died Tuesday evening, Feb. 4, 2014, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown surrounded by his family.
John was born Sept. 4, 1945, in Steubenville, to Joseph and Virginia Custer Allen.
He was a graduate of Weir High School in Weirton, W.Va.
John worked for Wean United as fabrication fitter for 21 years. He retired from Howland Machine in 2011 after 17 years.
John loved to work, but mostly enjoyed the time he spent with his family and his dog, Honey.
He is survived by his wife, the former Kathleen Kesner, whom he married Sept. 15, 1989; a daughter, Jennifer (Brian) Malatok of New Middletown; a son, John (Patricia) Allen of Lexington, S.C.; two stepdaughters, Linnette Patterson of Austintown and Michelle (Scott) Packer of Austintown; two sisters, Doris (Geno) Iafrate of West Virginia and Sandra (Anthony) Lynn of Boardman; 11 grandchildren, Alyssa (Bert) Allen Smith, Courtney Allen, Alexanderia Allen, Will Heid Jr., Rachel Malatok, Lindsay (Cory) Susany, Brittany Packer, Paige Patterson, Amanda Larson, Zane Patterson and Jake Larson; and one great-grandchild, Lane Allen Smith.
John was preceded in death by his parents and stepson, Edward Larson.
Funeral services will be held 6 p.m. Friday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel. Family and friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
The family would especially like to thank the staff of St. Elizabeth Health Center, Eighth Floor; to the hospice nurses, Stephanie and Tracy; and to Dr. Denise Bobovnyik for their exceptional care during John's illness.
