FORT MYERS, Fla. - Barbara Lynne Gilger, 72, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2014, following a brief illness at the Health Park Medical Center in Fort Myers, Fla., surrounded by her loving family.
She was born June 3, 1941, in Cleveland, to the late Benjamin and Jewel Kotlenz Hersch.
Barbara graduated from Shaker Heights High School in 1959 and then went on to attend The Ohio State University, where she met her husband, Dave Gilger.
Barbara married Dave on May 23, 1960, in New Cumberland, W.Va.
She was a 53-year member of the 500 Club, and was a talented artist, having created many paintings and crafts.
Barbara had a passion for interior design and helped her friends and family over the years by making their homes beautiful. Barbara was a devoted mother and grandmother, and her grandchildren were the loves of her life.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Dave Gilger; daughter, Lauren (Vernon) Holden; son, Brian (Jennifer) Gilger; grandchildren, Michael Holden, Katherine Holden, Sarah Gilger, Ben Gilger, Emily Gilger and Grace Gilger; and brother, Richard Hersch.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Calling hours for Barbara will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts Clark Chapel, 180 Garfield Drive N.E., Warren, OH 44481. Funeral services will follow calling hours, beginning at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
