CORTLAND - Ruth Grant, 94, of Cortland, died at 6:05 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.
Mrs. Grant was born on Aug. 18, 1919, in Warren, the daughter of the late Edgar and Mary Conroy Battison.
Ruth was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Cortland; she enjoyed sewing, flower gardening and she was an avid reader.
Mrs. Grant was also Maplewood PTO president for many years.
For a short time, Ruth worked at Packard Electric in Warren, but soon quit working to become a homemaker and take care of her family full time. Ruth was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her daughter, Joan M. (Lee) Pappas of Mecca; three grandchildren, Erika Grant-Lopez of Lisbon, Ryan (Melissa) Pappas of Cortland and Nick (Nicki) Pappas of Cortland; and four great-grandchildren, Ava, Logan, Chase and Alexis Pappas.
Other than her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, George T. Grant, on Feb. 13, 1992, and they were united in marriage on April 23, 1941; and her siblings, Louise Denman, Marion Mumma, Richard Battison, John Battison and Donna Mason.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel in Cortland. Pastor Gary Crawford will celebrate Ruth's life.
Family and friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Ruth will be buried next to her husband in the West Mecca Cemetery.
