CHAMPION - William "Bill" E. Blakeley Jr., 70, passed peacefully away at home on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, after a brief battle with lung cancer.
He was born Sept. 19, 1943, in Canton, a son of William E. Sr. and Ruth V. Swatsworth Blakeley.
Bill was a 1962 graduate of Rootstown High School, where he played football, wrestled and ran track.
For many years, Bill and wife Kay enjoyed camping on Catawba Island, where he enjoyed boating and fishing for perch and walleye on Lake Erie.
He worked 30 years at LTV / WCI Steel as a galvanize operator. After retiring, Bill enjoyed his summertime traveling senior golf league and spending the wintertime in North Fort Myers, Fla.
Survivors include the love of his life, his wife, Kathleen J. Blakeley of Champion, whom he married July 15, 1982; son, Edward A. (Sharon) Blakeley of Charleston, S.C.; daughter, Rhonda Blakeley of Charleston, S.C.; stepson, John (Mary Ann) Dorsey of Champion; stepdaughter, Brenda (Bill) Aiosa of Champion; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Sandy) of Howland; a sister, Nancy (Chet) Wiley of Ravenna; and many nieces and nephews. Bill will be greatly missed by his rescue dog, Molly.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, with his good friend and neighbor Raul Kemp officiating.
Interment will be in Champion Township Cemetery, Champion, following the service.
