HILLSBORO - James Virgil Tabor, 76, of Hillsboro, formerly of Warren, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at the Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Fla.
He was born Dec. 27, 1937, in Olive Hill, Ky., the son of Harlan and Edna Boyd Tabor.
Mr. Tabor was a retired electrician and had served as a meteorologist in the U.S. Air Force and was a basketball player for the Air Force, playing for three years and being team captain for two years. He traveled extensively with the Air Force team, The Defenders, both in the United States and abroad.
He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed going to Avon Park, Fla., during the winter.
He was a graduate of Mineral Springs (Ohio) High School, where he participated in many sports.
He is survived by three sons, Chuck (Shirley) Tabor of Winchester, Jim (Becky) Tabor of St. George, Utah, and Tim (Cheryl) Tabor of Hillsboro; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and five siblings, Richard (Nancy) Tabor of Warren, Bonnie (Vince) Ambrose of Jacksonville, Fla., Sue (Tom) Goins of Hillsboro, Gary (Sue) Tabor of Winchester and Dolly (Darryl) Stephenson of Independence, Ky.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro, Ohio. The Highland County Honor Guard will present honors following the service. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at a later date in the Sunrise Sunset Cemetery in Morehead, Ky.
