AUSTINTOWN - James Patrick Pierson, 63, of Winthrop Drive, passed away at 11:33 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2014 at the Cleveland Clinic following a sudden illness, with his sons by his side.
Mr. Pierson was born Oct. 27, 1950 in East Liverpool, the son of John C. and Wilma Baker Pierson, and had lived in the area all of his life.
A 1968 graduate of Southern Local, James worked as a team leader for 38 years on the assembly line at GM Lordstown, retiring in 2008.
He was a hardworking, proud member of the U.A.W. Local 1112. James was a car enthusiast, enjoyed sports, and loved to spend time with his grandchildren, whom he adored.
He also attended the Harvest Baptist Church.
He is survived and will be dearly remembered by his sons, John (Stephanie) Pierson and Jason (Tricia) Pierson, both of Salem; sisters, Fran Hawkins of Hanoverton and Patti Jordon of Alliance; brother, Denny (Tracey) Pierson of Minerva; his former wife, Candi (Smith) Pierson; grandchildren, Kyle, Kelsie, Morgan, Cameron, Emma, Alyssa, Brady, and Blake; and several nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his sister, Janet May and by his brother, John "Mike" Pierson.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at the Salem Saxon Club, 1980 New Garden Road (state Route 9), Salem, with the Rev. Ronald Laughlin of the Harvest Baptist Church officiating.
A gathering of family and friends will take place from 1 p.m. until the time of services Saturday at the Saxon Club.
The family suggests memorial contributions in his memory be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
