POLAND - Regis Emil Leskovec, 77, of Poland and formerly of Girard, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at Northside Hospital.
He was born Feb. 17, 1936, in Girard, the son of the late John and Isabelle Gillen Leskovec.
He was an Army veteran, serving from 1955 to 1957. He had worked for Ohio Leather Works and later at Brainard Rivet as a shipper, retiring in 1996. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows-St. Matthias Church in Youngstown, IFH Club, SNPJ Lodge #643, KSKJ Lodge and Kuzman's Golf League for many years. Regis was a lifetime member of the Cleveland Style Polka Hall of Fame and enjoyed polka music and dancing, playing the accordion, bowling, where he was known as "Golden Arm," golfing, poker and pinochle.
He leaves his wife, the former Janice M. Martinko, whom he married June 1, 1991; daughter, Lori Leskovec of Portland, Ore.; and sons, Michael Leskovec of Boardman and Ronald Leskovec of Berea. He also leaves his nephew, Jack (Mary Ellen) Leskovec; nieces, Judy (William) Owen and Janie Roche; his father-in-law, John Martinko; sister-in-law, Lorrie (Joe) Nelson; brother-in-law, Chuck (Peggy Golick) Martinko; nephew, Nick (Stephanie Tompkins); several great-nieces and great-nephews, including "his baby girl," Piper Nelson.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Leskovec, and his niece, Holly Nelson.
Reg loved his neighborhood children, most especially "Mr. McCorkle," "Jay-Boy / Claude," "Miss Dayna," "Adam-12" and "AshCan."
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Sorrows-St. Matthias Church, 915 Cornell, Youngstown, OH 44502. The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard and also from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Interment will be held in Girard City Cemetery.
