ROCKLEDGE, Fla. - Elaine L. Teutsch, 83, formerly of Newton Falls, passed away quietly on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, in Rockledge, five days after suffering a heart attack and stroke.
She was born Elaine Louise Hakes on Oct. 17, 1930, in Akron, the fourth of five children, to Ruth Belle Baldwin and Sheldon Bruce Hakes, both deceased.
After growing up in Akron and Miami, Fla., she resided for many years in the Norman-Rockwellesque small town of Newton Falls, where she raised five wonderful children. While there she was active in Eastern Stars and the First Christian Church, and after many years of being an involved stay-at-home mom, she was employed by the Newton Falls City Loan and Savings.
In 1976, she moved to the Homestead, Fla., area and resided there until 1992, when she moved to Rockledge following the devastation of Hurricane Andrew. While in Florida, Elaine was very active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) organization, serving in many various offices, including president of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary for the State of Florida in 1989.
Elaine loved to sing, entertaining her friends and family with rousing renditions of their favorite karaoke songs. Her personal favorite was "How Great Thou Art," which she sang many times over the years in church choirs and for her friends when asked to do so. She was a friend to all who knew her. As a great listener, a purveyor of sound advice and a person who could be relied upon to help in any situation, she was greatly loved and will be just as greatly missed.
Elaine is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, John Teutsch; sons, Dru (Bridgette) Wright of Idaho, Daryl Wright of Ohio and Doug (Reba) Wright of Georgia; 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many caring nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, David Wright; daughter, Dianne Wright; sisters, Donna Wolfe and Faye Shane; and a brother, Robert Hakes.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Life Events Center Florida Memorial funeral home, 321-636-8943, in Rockledge. Calling hours at the funeral home will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday. Funeral services at the funeral home will be 11 a.m. Tuesday. Following the funeral service there will be a Celebration of Life event for family and friends at VFW Post 4534, Rockledge.
