NEWTON FALLS - Joseph Enoka Nahoopii, 48, of Newton Falls, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014.
Joseph was born in Kaunakakai, Hawaii, on May 25, 1965, to parents Joseph Sr. and Lovey Nahoopii.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was currently employed as a highway technician for ODOT.
Joseph liked boating and fishing, taking advantage of the many lakes in the area, and especially enjoyed taking his boat to Lake Erie.
He loved to take long drives and see new places. Joseph enjoyed playing volleyball at the YMCA.
He was a friend to everyone and was well liked and respected. Set in his ways at times, Joseph never hesitated to help anyone in need and could fix anything. He was always laughing.
Joseph is survived by his companion, Melisa Nahoopii, and his children, Christopher Thomas and Nicole Kaluwahine Nahoopii. He is also survived by his grandson, Thomas Brewer, and his siblings, Joelle (Joe) Kaai, John Nahoopii and Joni Kadowaki. Joseph also leaves his father- and mother-in-law, Bill and Dorothy Thomas, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joann (Chris) Kaauwai.
Family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor David Ballert officiating.
Interment will follow in Grandview Memorial Park.
