SCOUTS TAKE PART IN KLONDIKE DERBY: The Whispering Pines District of the Greater Western Reserve Council Boy Scouts of America is sponsoring its annual Boy Scout Klondike Derby Friday to Sunday at Camp Stambaugh, 3712 Leffingwell Road, Canfield. The outdoor event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The derby includes competition between troop patrols involving all Boy Scout Troops in Mahoning County and Hubbard. More than 200 scouts and more than 50 adult leaders will be participate. Patrols will compete against each other at seven stations along the Yukon Trail, using skills they have learned in scouting. Stations will be reminiscent of the Klondike Gold Rush days in Alaska. Each station involves a different skill such as cooking, signaling, sled race, mule pull, log hoist, first aid and building a fire. Scouts have been trained in winter camping. For information, call Preston at 330-898-8474.
