The 35th annual Warren Men's Challenge began Saturday at Freeway Lanes, with 70 bowlers trying to become the city's best.
After the first six games of bowling, Dave Joseph has the lead with 1,509 pins. He averaged 251.5 through six games and threw a high game of 279.
Behind Joseph in second is three-time and defending champion Adam Barta with a 1,439. He also bowled a high game of 279. Rounding out the top five is Tom Gmutza (1,430), Robert Blose (1,426) and Robert Harvischak (1,413).
There were no 300 games rolled on Saturday, but Rich Speicher and Harvischak came close, each bowling 11 strikes in a row. Speicher finished the the high game of the day with a 299. Harvischak finished with a 278.
