GREENVILLE, S.C. - Martha J. "Marty" "Tubby" Day, 91, passed away Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at Greenville Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Marty was born July 4, 1922, in Niles, the daughter of the late Elmer and Estella Naylor Jones.
She was a 1940 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and graduated from Youngstown Business College with an associate's degree. She worked as a secretary at Warren Manufacturing in her earlier years and retired as secretary at the YMCA in Warren.
She resided in Greenville, where her daughter, Norma Kriston, lives. Prior to moving to Greenville, she lived in Florida for 17 years and had lived in Warren with her husband and family for many years.
Marty was blessed with a sharp wit and great sense of humor. She would put a smile on your face. Through the years she was active in many organizations in Niles, Warren and Florida.
She was a lover of all animals as they were of her. She will always be remembered as a great homemaker and cook, especially for her apple crumb pie.
Marty was a member of Central Christian Church in Warren, where she was a charter member of the Friendship/Open Door Class.
She is survived by her daughter, Norma A. (Gary) Kriston of Simpsonville, S.C.; one son, Thomas L. (Jodi) Day of Prescott, Ariz.; two grandchildren, James Kriston of Trinity, Fla., and Sandra Peacock of Richmond Hill, Ga.; and two great-grandchildren, Garrett and Hannah Kriston.
Her husband of 56 years, Lloyd W. Day, whom she married Nov. 2, 1946, preceded her in death in 2002.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren, where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Niles City Cemetery.
