NEWTON FALLS - Gertrude N. Eckenrode, 92, of Newton Falls, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at Laurie Ann Nursing Home.
On May 5, 1921, in Connellsville, Pa., Bartholomew and Mary Zielinska Prusky were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Gertrude.
Gertrude resided in Newton Falls since 1924 and was a 1939 graduate of Newton Falls High School.
She was a parishioner of SS. Mary and St. Joseph Church, and was one of the original parishioners of St. Mary's Church. Gertrude mainly was a homemaker, but during World War II she was employed by Trumbull Lamp. In her spare time, Gertrude enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening.
On April 20, 1940, Paul B. Eckenrode and Gertrude Prusky were united into marriage, and from this union they had a son, Paul D.
Her husband preceded her in death on April 11, 1999.
Cherished memories of Gertrude will be carried on by her son, Paul Dennis (Tina) Eckenrode; grandson, Timothy Paul Eckenrode; and sister, Helen Rendinell, all of Newton Falls.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Paul; brothers, Caesar, Joe, Stanley, Leo, Frank and John Prusky; sisters, Cecilia Westover and Victoria Rusney; and her beloved dog, Keisha.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Borowski Memorial Home, where services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday. Gertrude will be laid to rest next to her husband, Paul, in Newton Township Cemetery.
