LEAVITTSBURG - The newest inductees into the LaBrae School's Alumni Hall of Fame will be honored at the fifth annual ceremony at 6 p.m. January 10 in the high school section of the school complex.
Wendy Johnson Popour, acommittee member, said the committee has been busy this past year reviewing names and selecting the inductees who are: David Blahu, 1941 graduate Leavittsburg High School, Fred Alberini Jr., 1956 graduate Leavittsburg High School; the Rev. Marc Booker, 1982 LaBrae High School; Michelle Murray Granny, 1985 LaBrae High School; and Heidi Bartholomew, 1988 LaBrae High School;
Blahu served as a Warren Township trustee for three consecutive terms. He is a retired Marine and member of the Elmer Dade American Legion Post 699 since 1945;
Alberini has been a teacher, coach and guidance counselor for Leavittsburg and Howland schools. He is currently vice president for Trumbull Business College. Alberini has been a Howland Township trustee;
Booker became a Baptist minister and is senior pastor of New Jerusalem Baptist Church. He works as a training manager of the Shuman Juvenile Detention Center in Pittsburgh;
Granny is employed at Phillips Healthcare in their nuclear engineering, research and development division. She has been presented the Outstanding Innovation Achievement Award for redesigning the PET/CT scanner's table;
Bartholomew teaches at the University of Pittsburgh. She was a member of the executive management team for the nine billion dollar division of FedEx Ground Company in Pittsburgh.
Popour said the alumni hall of fame is on the hunt for new committee members and new honorees.
Committee members must be willing to attend four or five meetings per year, help choose honorees and assist hosting the inductions ceremony.
Members need only be interested in presenting graduates from the schools to the public.
Honorees must be at least a 10-year alumnus and a graduate of Braceville, LaBrae and Leavittsburg high schools.
They also must have made significant contributions to their community, their state and or on a world-wide basis.
Honoree nomination forms can be downloaded from the LaBrae School's website and must be received before June 1 by Cleda Gill Sanderson, 628 N. Leavitt Road, Leavittsburg, 44430 for the 2014 vote.
