CORTLAND - Mary S. Nicula, 92, went to be with her Lord Thursday morning, Dec. 26, 2013, at Cortland Health Care in Cortland.
Mary was born Dec. 31, 1920, in Tallmansville, W.Va., a daughter of James A. Steele and Zona Elizabeth Reid Steele.
She was a graduate of Hartford Schools.
She married her husband, John G. Nicula Jr., on Dec. 20, 1946, and they raised four children together.
She was a member of Fowler Community Church. She was in the Women's Auxiliary at the Fowler Fire Department and formerly was in a Women's Bowling League at Cortland Lanes.
She lived for her family and found great joy in visiting with her family and friends. She also enjoyed baking, working in her gardens, and freezing and canning all her fruits and vegetables.
Mary is survived by two sons, John R. (Linda) Nicula of Fowler and Jim (Cindy) Nicula of Fowler; two daughters, Kathleen M. Nicula of Cortland and Patricia L. (Jeff) Furrie of Vienna; five grandchildren, Stacie, Jason, Elizabeth, Michael and Madison; five great-grandchildren, Stefan, Shane, Brianna, Caleb, Logan and AJ; and one brother, James Steele of South Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, who passed away on May 7, 1993; three sisters, Theresa Gunn, Maudeline Minor and Agnes Steele; and three brothers, Lawrence Steele, Louis Steele and Robert Steele.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fowler Community Church, 4665 Wilson Sharpsville Road, officiated by Pastor Joel Dickson. Friends and family may visit one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will take place at Dugan Cemetery in Fowler Township following the service.
