GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - Lonnie Alford Swango, 90, formerly of Bristolville, died on Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013, at Signature Health Care, Greeneville, Tenn.
He was born on July 28, 1923, in Slade, Ky., a son of Taylor and Louellen Dunn Swango.
Lonnie lived in Bristolville area 60 years before he moved to Greeneville, Tenn., three years ago.
He was a U.S. World War II Army Air Corps veteran.
He was a crane operator at Copperweld Steel in Warren for 30 years and retired in 1985.
He attended Bristolville Freewill Baptist Church.
His hobbies included listening to gospel music, word search, reading, playing pool and hunting.
He will be missed by his friends and family, his son, Lonnie L. (Wanda) Swango of Greeneville; two stepchildren, William Inman and David Ryan; two sisters, Ann Townsend of Greenup, Ky., and Wanda Catron of Slade, Ky.; five grandchildren, Morris, Lonnie, Brian, Andrew and Jessica; seven stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren, Marissa, Ashley and Kaylee; 19 stepgreat-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Taylor and Louellen Swango; his wife, Ollie Swango; his son, Denzel Swango; his stepson, Kenneth Ryan; his sister, Gladys Daugherty; and his brothers, Manuel and William Swango.
The funeral service will be held at noon Monday at Russell Funeral Service, 15670 West High St. (state Route 87), Middlefield. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Monday until the service time at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in West Farmington.
