NILES Martha M. Hassay, 89, formerly of Warren, passed away Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at the Manor in Niles.
Martha was born Jan. 20, 1924, in Youngstown, the daughter of Peter and Anna Leeson.
She came to Warren in 2002 from Campbell.
Martha was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Warren and previously belonged to St. Elizabeth Church in Campbell, where she was a member of the church Infant of Prague Guild for many years and also did a lot of baking, cooking and fund-raising for the church and was one of the cornerstones of the church.
She is survived by her three daughters, Jeannette (Harry) Menz of Howland, Donna (Dan) Fisher of Austintown, and Carol (Tom Mooney) Durkin of Tucson, Ariz., daughter-in-law Darlene Hassay; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stephen J. Hassay, whom she married Nov. 1, 1945, and passed away Feb. 12, 1997; a son, Jerome "Jerry" Hassay; two brothers, Peter Jr. and Steven "Pudgy" Leeson; and three sisters, Julie Ostanowski, Mary Polkovitch and Anne Vellky.
Family and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Blesssed Sacrament Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Thomas Eisweirth officiating.
Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Campbell.
The family wants to thank the staff at The Manor at Autumn Hills for their exemplary and loving care. The staff were true angels to Martha.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Peter Rossi and Son Memorial Chapel, Warren.
