NILES Clifford W. Kline, 91, a lifelong resident of Niles, passed away Thursday morning, Dec. 12, 2013, at Shepherd of the Valley in Niles.
He was born in Ambridge, Pa, on April 30, 1922, a son of Arthur Kline and Mabel Miller Kline.
He was a 1940 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and attended Youngstown College.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, where he served as a medic.
Clifford was a member of the First Baptist Church in Niles, a member of the American Legion Post No. 106 of Niles as past commander and Niles Masonic Lodge No. 794 F and AM for more than 60 years. He belonged to the York Rite Girard, Ohio Chapter, Council and Commander and served as the past high priest in chapter and the past master in council.
He was the past president of the Association of Retarded Citizens at Fairhaven School. He also enjoyed golfing in a golf league for many years.
Clifford is survived by three daughters, Ruth Ann (David) Fritz of Niles, Elaine J. (David) Kubli of Columbus, and Kathy L. Fleming of Niles; one son, Robert A. "Bobby" Kline of Niles; two sisters, Flora "Ocie" Williams of Mineral Ridge and Martha Barnhart of Atlanta; five grandchildren, Marc Fritz, Heather (Michael) Southerington, Todd (Lindsey) Kubli, Whitney Fleming, and Lindsay Fleming; and three great-grandsons, Christopher "CJ" Southerington, Carter Thomas, and Braxton Kubli.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth Naomi (Byrom) Kline, whom he married on Aug. 25, 1943; one son, Bruce Paul Kline; and one brother, Arthur Kline.
Funeral services for Clifford will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at the Lane Family Funeral Homes - Niles Chapel, 415 Robbins Ave., Niles, officiated by Pastor Dave Burman and Pastor Ben Reed.
Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, and one hour prior to the service Monday.
Interment will take place at Niles City Cemetery.
