Fri 6:55pm: Prescription drop off boxes available in Lordstown, Niles

The Lordstown and Niles police departments have added unwanted prescription drug drop boxes in the lobbies of each police station.

The Lordstown box is located at 1583 Salt Springs Road and the Niles box at 15 E. State St., each offering a safe way for the public to dispose of unwanted prescription drugs and medications. Residents can access the box at any time.

Officers from the Trumbull Ashtabula Group will keep a count of the medications and then destroy them.

The box was purchased by the Trumbull County Mental Health and Recovery Board through a grant.

Allowable medications include pills, capsules, patches, powders, vitamins, inhalers and pet meds. Drugs should be dropped in their original containers or in sealed plastic bags.

Drugs are not acceptable are liquids, needles, syringes, lancets, thermometers, IV bags, aerosol cans, hydrogen peroxide, empty containers and illegal drugs.
