Politicians wager on Ohio State-Michigan
U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown is betting a lawmaker from Michigan a six-pack of beer that the Ohio State Buckeyes will defeat the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday.
If the Buckeyes win, U.S. Rep. Gary Peters, a Democrat, will buy Brown Cleveland-brewed Great Lakes Christmas Ale. However, if the Wolverines win, Brown will buy Peters a selection from the Michigan-brewed Detroit Beer Company.
Saturday's game, thought by many to be the greatest rivalry in sports, is the 110th game between the two schools.
Bristol Township to meet on road resurfacing
BRISTOL - Township trustees will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at the the township hall to act on a resolution on Housel Craft Road resurfacing project with Ohio Public Works Transportation Improvement program. Trustees have also canceled Tuesday's meeting.
Farmington gets grant for wastewater hookups
West Farmington will receive a $414,000 state grant for wastewater collection and treatment in the village.
The Community Development Block Grant funding also will be used to help connect 50 low-to-moderate-income households to the system. A total 184 households will benefit from the project.
The funding is administered by the Community Development Office in the Ohio Development Services Agency, which announced the grant funding.
Brookfield court's lease extended for one year
WARREN - Trumbull County commissioners Wednesday extended the county's lease for space to house Eastern District Court in Brookfield.
The one-year extension with K-Y Residential, Commercial and Development Corporation in Brookfield calls for the county to pay monthly rent of $4,052, the same amount the county previously paid. At the end of the year, commissioners have the option to extend the lease for another two years in one-year terms.
The original lease agreement was signed in September 2002.
GOP?official set to speak at holiday party
Chris McNulty, political director for the Republican National Committee, will be the speaker at the Mahoning County Republican Party's Christmas and holiday party.
The party will be 6 p.m. Dec. 28 at the Blue Wolf Banquet Center, 7095 Lockwood Blvd, Boardman.
Tickets cost $35 a person and reservations can be made by sending a check to the GOP headquarters with a list of group members, calling headquarters before and paying at the door or sending an email to Jill Downie at jdowniegop@gmail.
Man catches fire in possible theft attempt
EAST LIVERPOOL - A St. Clair Avenue man who reportedly caused an electrical outage to more than 3,000 residents for several hours overnight Saturday is facing a felony charge.
A spokesman for the city police department said this week that Joseph Monteiro, 47, is facing a charge of disrupting public service or public transportation, a fourth-degree felony.
The spokesman said he will most likely be indicted on the charge through the grand jury.
