Fri., 7:13am: Second woman gets life in love triangle death

November 15, 2013

MEADVILLE, Pa. - A second northwestern Pennsylvania woman has pleaded guilty and been sentenced to life in prison without parole in the love triangle killing of an Ohio woman found buried in a shallow grave last year.

Twenty-one-year-old Ashley Barber pleaded guilty Thursday in Crawford County Court to first-degree murder in the death of 19-year-old Brandy Stevens of Beaver Township, Ohio, originally of East Liverpool.

Prosecutors say Barber and 20-year-old Jade Olmstead, who pleaded guilty last month, lured Stevens to their home near Cochranton in May 2012 where they beat and waterboarded Stevens, before rolling her into a shallow grave, where she suffocated.

Stevens' mother, Carrie Rosine, told sentencing Judge Mark Stevens - who isn't related to the victim - that her daughter "was a loving, caring compassionate young woman" who did not deserve to die.
