Sharon (Pa.) High School lost a close game tonight when Girard (Pa.) scored on a 22-yard touchdown pass with 13.3 seconds in the game for a 22-20 win.
It was the first round of the PIAA Class AA playoffs. Girard advances to face Greenville (Pa.) next weekend.
The game originally was to be played Saturday but was postponed until today after two players were killed and two others injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday night in Sharon. Killed were seniors Corey Swartz, 18, the driver of one vehicle, Evan Gill, 17. Injured were twin brothers Greg and Craig Osmon. The players were returning home from watching a playoff game at Hickory High School.
The driver of the other vehicle, John Zdelar Jr. of Brookfield, 50, also died. His two young passengers, his stepson Evan Wallace, 10, and Evan's friend Blake Yenderak, 12, were injured.
They had just left a Brookfield High School football game.
State police said speed was a factor when the players' vehicle crossed a lane and collided with Zdelar's pickup.
The Sharon players had the option of canceling the game altogether but decided unanimously to play on in memory of their lost teammates, according to officials.
