AUSTINTOWN - The Austintown Board of Education is investigating allegations that were made between board member Harold Porter and superintendent Vincent Colaluca.
An attorney was present for the special meeting held Thursday in executive session because the dispute is subject of pending or imminent court action, according to a press release.
"There were allegations made by the superintendent toward the board member and allegations made by the board member toward the superintendent," said board president David Schnurrenberger, who said he could not comment as to the nature of the allegations but confirmed the identity of the board member as Porter.
"We met in executive session and the board will be investigating respective complaints, and to ensure the integrity of the process, the board will not discuss further in public until the investigation is concluded," he said.
Porter said the wording of the dispute for the purpose of the meeting may make people think more of it than it really is.
"It's a couple of things that we're trying to iron out and we're trying to do it by proper channels," he said, and also declined to specify the nature of the allegations.
Colaluca said he was excused from part of the meeting as members of the board conferred, as was Porter.
"They're in the process of evaluating their options and that's what they're doing; that's all I know," Colaluca said.
No action was taken Thursday, and Schnurrenberger said the board is actively determining which steps need to take place to resolve the dispute.
