NEWTON FALLS - John Edward Crowder Sr., 83, of Newton Falls, passed into eternal life on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at Laurie Ann Nursing Home.
On Sept. 13, 1930, in Akron, Roy Preston and Ethel Blanche Mackley Crowder were blessed with the birth of their son, John. He has lived in Newton Falls his entire life.
John married the love of his life, Helen Irene Henary, on Jan. 20, 1952, and they have been blessed with 61 years of marriage.
John worked at Union Savings and Trust in Warren, Niles Republic Credit Union and then McKelvey Credit Union as an office manager.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, stationed in Alaska. He was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Champion. He held many positions in the church, including branch president, high councilman and Sunday school president. John held the office of high priest.
He had a passion for farming, and enjoyed doing genealogy and finding information on his ancestors.
Memories of John will be carried on by his loving family, his wife, Helen Crowder of Newton Falls; his daughter, Ann (Quade) Kotter of Clearfield, Utah; his sons, George (Vickie) Crowder of Layton, Utah, and John (Amie) Crowder of Newton Falls; his brother, the Rev. Donald (Clara) Crowder of North Carolina; grandchildren, Rocky Kotter, John ''JJ,'' Josh, John III and Jarred Crowder, Jessica Welsh, Alysha Major, Kaylin Williams, Kelsie Crowder; and nine great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Robert Crowder.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at James Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
John will be laid to rest at Newton Falls Cemetery.
