Harrison natural gas
processing plant opens
HARRISON - Ohio's first integrated natural gas processing and fractionation complex for the Utica Shale this week hosted a ceremonial opening.
The event was attended by Gov. John Kasich, other elected officials and business leaders from Utica East Ohio Buckeye, a combination of Access Midstream, M3 Midstream and EV Energy Partners.
The Harrison Hub, which sits on 600 acres, will process 45,000 barrels per day and have significant space for storage and a rail transportation system. Fractionation is a process different from fracking, meaning the Harrison Hub serves as a distillery for product that comes from a cryogenic processing plant near Kensington.
The crude product can be separated into more valuable products like butane, propane and methane. The Kensington plant processes more than two hundred million cubic feet of gas per day, according to M3 Midstream CEO Frank Tsuru. The UEO Buckeye System extends from Columbiana County to the north, and goes through Carroll County to Harrison County.
Senators urge steel
trade on level field
Bipartisan U.S. senators, including both from Ohio, this week called on the U.S. International Trade Commission to maintain anti-dumping duties to help fight unfairly traded imports of hot-rolled steel.
In a letter sent Wednesday to U.S. ITC Chairman Irving Williamson, Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown and Republican Sen. Rob Portman joined 19 others in arguing that the trade orders help maintain a level playing field for an already vulnerable domestic steel industry.
"As our trade deficit continues to widen, it becomes more urgent to level the playing field for Ohio-based steel producers like ArcelorMittal and AK Steel," Brown said.
"Ohio steelworkers can compete and win on a level playing field, but we must enforce our trade laws," Portman added.
In August, the ITC issued a preliminary vote to protect domestic producers of Oil Country Tubular Goods from foreign competitors that use unfair and illegal trade practices. That preliminary ruling affected hot-rolled carbon steel flat products from China, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Taiwan and Ukraine.
